Lea Road Community Food Project
Iea Road Food Project is community project that has developed from around July 2020 for people living in the local neighbourhood of the church who have been directly affected by the Covid19 pandemic. Surplus food is collected by volunteers, from Fare Share in Birmingham as well as Greggs and other supermarkets when available. The food is boxed up and either
collected or delivered to people in need living in the area. The food bank runs weekly on a Thursday evening from Lea Road Church. Voluntary donations for the food are collected on an ability to contribute basis, as we need to raise around £45 per week to buy the food to distribute from FareShare. This buys 150 kilos of food that is considered to be the equivalent
of providing enough food for 300 meals.
The project is helping the church to keep in contact with people living in the neighbourhood of the church whilst at the same time supporting some of the most vulnerable people including those who are having to shield at this time, refugees and asylum seekers and those who employment has been directly impacted by Covid. The project has also enabled the church to build new relationships and for members of the church to demonstrate practical
love and caring by putting their neighbours who are in need in touch with the project or enabling food to be delivered to them.
If you know anyone who is in particular need or hardship at the moment, please do ask them to get in touch or refer them to the project, so that we can make sure that no one in our neighbourhood goes hungry at this difficult time. The email address for the project is learoadfood@gmail.com
